The Home Assistance Program of Apokoronas is run by the charitable foundation "Agia Sofia" in collaboration with the Health Center of Vamos and has the support of the Ministry of Health, the Prefecture of Chania, the Municipalities of the former province Apokoronas, the Church and the local community.

The program is targeted at elderly couples or not self-sufficient couples in need of special care due to temporary or chronic diseases, people with disabilities, people with psychosocial and psychiatric problems, people without sufficient financial resources, families who care for and accommodate seniors and persons disabled or have serious social problems.

Services provided to program

• Social work with individuals and families in the form of psychological and moral support
• Working with the family - durable and practical information on health issues - effort to improve domestic relations
• Cooperation with local authorities to improve living conditions of the needed and address practical and economic problems
• Working with health and welfare authorities and authoroties serving the needs of elderly
• Nursing care and monitoring in cooperation with the Health Center of Vamos
• Pharmaceutical prescriptions
• Transfer to the Health Center of Vamos when needed or accompaniment to other health services
• Personal care and concern for personal hygiene
• Vaccinations for flu
• Covering personal needs for the poor
• Home cleaning - care and cleaning of personal clothing
